I have read that the SelecTrac version of the Wrangler has CV joints instead of U-joints on the front axle. Given that the Jeep this thread is about has SelecTrac and possibly faced some driveline stress, what do people think would stand up better to abuse, CV or U joints?
My concern, which may be unfounded due to my own ignorance is that when you get the FullTime option, the front diff has CV joints instead of U-joints. Can someone more knowledgeable please comment on the relative strengths and weaknesses of U-joints vs. CV joints?
It came out in another thread that the front axles on the Wranglers equipped with the Full-Time option have CV joints. Please pardon my ignorance on the subject, but would the CV joints be stronger or weaker than however the architecture is on a standard Part-Time version?
I scratch my head because it seems like if you're going to put LED taillights on, then you probably want LED headlights as well. Maybe that's just how my tiny pea-brain works, though, and nobody else thinks that way.
That is interesting that the blind-spot monitoring is in the tail lights. Is...
Oh! Good info. Thank you.
So the "pinchy" ones are part of the "LED Lighting Group Sales code: AD6"?
Very interesting.
It appears that the standard JL headlight is halogen and not LED, so you have to order the AD6 package to get LED headlights, right?
Can you folks knowledgeable about the JLs answer a question for me? I am seeing more and more JLs driving around the greater Boston area.
I had thought that I could always ID them from behind by the fact that the tail lights were kind of pinched in on the sides, like this:
However, I have now...
With any first release of any new thing, users in the field will find things that the design and test teams did not know about, or that the teams failed to test in a manner that sufficiently emulated real world use. I am actually very interested in the vents and hope that once JLs find their way...
I dunno about mud, but as I looked at the pictures, I was thinking about rainwater and all of the dirt it carries. Wondering if that will be shot all along the side of the vehicle and if so, how high will it go? Will it hit the windows? Now, maybe they did their homework and nothing but air will...
LOL. Nah, the JL is an evolution, not a revolution, whereas the '17 JK/JKU is the product of 10 years of platform development, so different animals.
Very much looking forward to seeing more and better pictures of the JL and reading the reviews on its capability and whatnot. Very exciting!
I just hope they provide some transfer case options. I want 2WD, Part-time 4WD Lo, Part-time 4WD Hi, and FullTime 4WD. I have good uses for all of those settings.
I think the answer to that is that they sell every JK they can make, so there is little pressure to make changes. Cynical, moi? ;)
I suspect that the ZF 8-speed may be a somewhat different size than the current slushbox, making it a much larger job to use in the current platform. Maybe someone...
