I’ve always liked a TJ. Long before I even dreamt of owning a Jeep. When they came out with the JL, I thought something looked a little warmly familiar about it. If you look at the two side by side, it appears the TJ lent a couple of it’s styling cues to the JL.

Its like comparing streaming service to blockbuster.

I do miss those days where you go out to eat on Friday night and stop by a DVD store on your way home, going aisle to aisle and pick up a couple of old movies to watch. The experience and nostalgia factor are all it is.

Do I miss those DVD renting days from time to time? Yes. Would I give up internet and streaming services? No.

Saying simplicity in the past is better... is like saying DVD is better because you don't need internet to watch a movie. You are right.... but... come on......

There is nothing I miss about the TJ. Honestly. If I HAD to write one thing, it’d be the key. I’m old school and would rather have an actual key to start instead of a push button. But that’s it.
I don’t want the smaller size, the 4.0, etc etc.
I took an 8 hour road trip last summer. I was totally comfortable. Can’t say the same about the old TJ.
JL comfortable??? After buying a Ram i realized just how horrible the comfort and highway manners are in the JL.

So positives for the TJ, as others said, i love the lack of electronics. You can upgrade your headlights without having to reprogram it. The visors are original and still work, unlike my JL which is on its 4th set-now with modified mounts. It tracks straight surprisingly without making micro adjustments on the freeway, the AC and heating aren't schizophrenic, no aux battery to deal with, never had Christmas lights on my dash, probably the most reliable vehicle I've owned (2003, still going strong), i can do 95% of the work on it myself, etc etc.

Cons, it's slow and doesn't have a lot of space for sure.

The JL- i absolutely love the 8spd transmission. Also my rubicon is super capable- beyond anything I've taken it on. I even had to pull my son's xj 9 miles up trails when his died and it did it no problem. I hate the electronics, the stock steering pump, gear box, pretty much the whole front end components which have almost all been upgraded now.

I don't ever intend to sell my tj. It has its place and yes the highway isn't one of them... but the jl isn't much better in that sense.

You were living large. We had a 13 inch black & white TV with a coat hanger.

My family was lucky enough to have one of those fake wooden monstrosities with the fabric speakers on either side of the screen. And the buttons on the remote were hard to push down and really clicky.

I was the remote until a remote control was invented. 😆

I just bought an LJ this past month to compliment the Jeeper in me. Big fan of the 4.0/6-speed combo.

The door straps are super nice on the LJ but for as often as the doors go on and off on the JL, I don’t mind they’re complexity.

There are many days I miss my LJ, but it wasn't my daily driver. Since I downsized, my JL meets my needs better. I frequently travel with two dogs and the four door are easier for the dogs than jumping into the back and climbing over the seat.

Unlikely, but I would love getting another LJ and making it a trail only type machine.

I have a '97 TJ and a '25 JL. Both are fun to drive for different reasons. I'm in the middle of swapping axles on the TJ, waiting on a rear trackbar to get delivered. I've got the 4.0L/6-Cylinder with 4.1 gearing. My new axles have 5.38 gearing so I'm really curious how different it's going to feel when I get the new gearing. I've got the JL setup the way I want for off-roading and it's a lot more comfortable with modern features. The TJ will be fun to upgrade as more of a buggy project over time.

I absolutely LOVE my 2002 Wrangler X but it's out of place on the road now. EVERYTHING is bigger and heavier and the safety features are lacking.

It’s a trailer queen now and has been relegated to off-road duty.

I greatly miss the tractor-like feel of my YJ. It was a mountain goat that would go anywhere, for the most part. It was old and cool, and easy to pull the doors and top off of. The clutch and manual transmission had a true feel to it, not slushy like in the JL.

It needed an engine, and I lack the desire to do a job like that anymore. When I handed over the keys I asked the kid I sold it to to call me if he ever decides to sell it, as I would like to have it back. It popped up in a Facebook memory over the weekend, and I cried a little inside.
