  1. Safe to use 5W-30?

So what temperature is your 3.6 hitting that a 20 weight won't handle? Why not just run a 15w50 if what you say is true? And 3.8s burn oil. All weights. Normal for that engine. Not an oil related issue. They eat oil but keep going. And if your engine gets anywhere near the 20 weight's...
  2. Safe to use 5W-30?

The industry thinks it is important enough that they ALL publish it. Oxidation is where the oil shows breakdown. Flash point is one indicator of an oil's resistance to heat related breakdown.. I've not seen any significant degradation of viscosity whether in 3k miles or over 8k. With any of...
  3. Safe to use 5W-30?

You might be surprised at the actual temperatures that different oils can withstand. It is assumed that a 30 weight can handle higher temps than a 20 weight. But check the data. Mobil 1 EP 0w20, with its previous formula, had a higher flash point than the 5w30. The new formulation isn't too...
  4. Favorite Off-Road Photo - Post Yours šŸ¤³

This is Moab, October 2023, 7 Mile Rim Trail, IIRC. My 2018 JLUR is leading my 2008 JKUR. This pic was taken by my 12 year old son. It turned out far better than I could have imagined! It was also the swan song for my 2008 JK. I bought it new in the fall of 2007 and it had 193,000 miles...
  5. Hurricane Creek Road.....Is it Open?

Great! Thanks! IĀ“ll report back after I run it. I donĀ“t know how much rain they have had down there, but I am expecting it to be a bit muddy and the water crossings to be interesting.
  6. Systemic issue with 3.6L manuals

Sorry to hear it, but this is the first IĀ“ve heard of it. I know a couple guys with new manuals and they havenĀ“t experienced it. Maybe they are lucky. IĀ“m in no rush to get the latest recall. This may slow me down further.
  7. Systemic issue with 3.6L manuals

Gotta correct the speedo or those kinds of errors are normal. Then again, I have not done the last recall yet. So maybe heĀ“s right.
  8. Systemic issue with 3.6L manuals

I trust dealers as much as someone with a Hindi accent trying to tell me over the phone they are from the IRS and need my bank account number because I owe them money. First, there is no software involvement other than to sense slipping of the clutch, based on an a computation that compares the...
  9. Hurricane Creek Road.....Is it Open?

IĀ“m heading down to TN this coming weekend. IĀ“ve done that road about 4 times. Each time it was more rutted, but I think it has been 2 or 3 years since I was there. Is it open? How are the ruts? Any trail report would be appreciated!
  10. AEV Snorkel Question

This is for anyone with an AEV snorkel. Do they generate much wind noise? IĀ“m thinking of one for my Gladiator but I am not interested in creating a bunch of wind noise or whistling from it. Are there any other downsides to it? Thanks!
  11. JLU oil change frequency

Synthetic, most likely. There is a small chance of a blend syn, but the only blend I've seen is Pennzoil Gold and I don't think they make it anymore. All major brands of 0w20 are full synthetics. Pennzoil Gold had great stats, so I wouldn't have any trepidation about running it.
  12. How long do Jeeps usually last?

The 4.0 was generally a great engine. For its day, it had great torque and was generally reliable and could last a long, long time with minimal care. BUT....the way people swoon over it is interesting....if considering it for its day, it was praise worthy and earned its rep. However, when I...
  13. Speaker Problem: Loose Amp Connectors, NOT Tazer Mini´s Fault.

Wow! Well, you saved me a bunch of frustration. My Tazer JL has been flawless, so I'm hoping the Mini can duplicate that after a rocky start. I'll keep you posted. I should know in the next couple weeks, once it has sat 3 days in a row.
  14. Speaker Problem: Loose Amp Connectors, NOT Tazer Mini´s Fault.

Sure enough, one of the plugs to the amp was loose and clicked right in. I can't thank you enough! So far, the Tazer is working as it should. I'm watching the voltage. The real test will be when I leave it sitting for 3 days. Hopefully the latest update will have fixed the battery drain.
  15. Speaker Problem: Loose Amp Connectors, NOT Tazer Mini´s Fault.

Thank you! I'll bet that's it! I will check those tomorrow, for sure!
  16. Speaker Problem: Loose Amp Connectors, NOT Tazer Mini´s Fault.

Well, it healed itself today. Worked fine. Speakers are back to normal. I've never had an issue with my old Tazer JL, but this mini has had them. It has caused battery drain in three different Jeeps. I was told by ZAuto to disable the in-motion feature and that would stop it. Nope. It...
  17. Speaker Problem: Loose Amp Connectors, NOT Tazer Mini´s Fault.

EDIT....This turned out not to be the Tazer MiniĀ“s fault. Read below @Jeepeto Ā“s reply and see the real culprit, which was loose connectors for the amp, which was a factory assembly issue. IĀ“m leaving this thread up in hopes it helps someone else in the future. I connected my Tazer Mini last...
  18. Ditch the 0w-20 before its too late.

IĀ“ve wheeled in the desert in high heat, crawling at slow speeds. AC on most of the time. No issues. Fan is loud. DonĀ“t care. Engine and oil temps stayed in the normal range that I see in Indiana all the time. I tow frequently, too. No issue. They did lighten some areas of the block, but...
  19. Ditch the 0w-20 before its too late.

0w20 is fine. My JK has 195,000 miles on it on 20 wt oil, with about half of it on 0w20. My old F150 ran 20 weight and has well over 200k on it now. My JL has 90k. No issues. OP's engine has a problem, but it has nothing to do with oil. There are 14 million Pentastars produced and they...
  20. Doing my first 19a Clutch recall today

Lol, those tractors and boats are badass! I think the Unlimited Hydroplane series has one now that is running an Allison in it! Some Arab royal family member in the Persian Gulf put three Allison T-56 turbines (like on the Lockheed C-130) in his luxury yacht and they were putting out somewhere...
